Investor Appeals to Cambodian Authorities Over Alleged Fraud by YY Capital Chairman
(Phnom Penh) – An investor in YY Capital Partners Co., Ltd. has asked Cambodia’s Ministry of Justice to intervene in a serious financial misconduct case involving the company’s Chairman, Yamada Taihei. The investor alleges that Yamada, a Japanese national, abused his position to defraud shareholders and misappropriate company funds.
According to the complaint, Yamada is accused of inflating the purchase prices of several real estate properties, resulting in the alleged misappropriation of around USD 4 million for himself and his associates. He is also said to have created fake business deals, arranged loans worth more than USD 7 million under the names of prominent Japanese companies, and forged documents to deceive other shareholders.
Further allegations suggest that Yamada managed multiple shell companies in Cambodia, Japan, Malaysia, and Singapore, controlling their finances while appointing nominees as company representatives. Some funds were reportedly transferred abroad to an account under the name of his wife, Ye Jun.
In Cambodia, authorities have already filed at least two criminal cases against Yamada and his associates, freezing assets and bank accounts. Investigations are reportedly ongoing in several countries, including China, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, Hong Kong, and the United States, in connection with suspected embezzlement, money laundering, and fraud.
Through his letters to the Ministry of Justice, the investor urges authorities to conduct thorough and transparent investigations, ensure justice, and hold the accused accountable. The letters also express concern about potential interference from influential figures, including members of the judiciary, that could obstruct the legal process, intimidate witnesses, or compromise evidence.
